Going Bare!

One of the consequences of photo shoots is lots of furniture moving and rearranging.  Some people may not look at this as a positive because it is a lot of work and creates a lot chaos but I actually love it!  By moving things around you gain a new perspective on the spaces in your home and the possibilities you might not have thought of before – case in point, the family room rug.

While it served its purpose well, it definitely had seen better days.  So when we were asked to remove the rug for the photo shoot I was amazed at how much lighter, brighter and bigger the room looked.

In fact, I liked the bare hardwood floors so much I decided not to put the rug back.

I have seen several very pretty rooms which also have no rugs, several of which I had saved to my inspiration file.  (I apologize for not knowing the sources for these photos.  If you recognize them please let me know as I would love to give credit to the designers/photographers of these beautiful spaces!)

So for the time being I have decided to bare it all and going “rugless.”

What do you think about the bare floors?  Would you try this in your home?  I would love to hear your opinion.

You room is stunning and I love the wood floors. No rug is fabulous. Love the pink drapes and the tulips. Hugs, Marty

A good friend of mine just removed a rug from her main floor and I told her how good it looked. She likes the new look too and it really brightens the place up a lot.

We are putting wood floors in and it makes sense not to cover them up right away. I think I'll try your way for a while and see how we like it.

If I had wood floors again, I would probably remove the rugs for the warmer months, Stacy. Although, in our old house I did remove an area rug from the wood floors in our dining room {after the sun bleached it out} and liked the look much better. We left it at that point rugless all year round. Yours look great without the rug. I like your new drapes, too!

Absolutely. I never got having wood floors and then covering them all up. I suppose a smaller rug for warmth in the Winter but for Spring and Summer... Lighter is better =) So pretty. Enjoy!!

Bare wood floors are beautiful and its great for warm weather, but in the winter I like to have a cozy fluffy rug to help warm up the room.

Those tulips are the most beautiful color!! I don't think I've ever seen tulips in that shade of pink before.Absolutely lovely.

I LOVE a rugless floor - and yours looks DIVINE! To be honest, I chop and change with this like the wind blows, but today I say - no rugs! x

When we added hardwood to our entire house during the renovation I found that I didn't really want rugs anymore. I have a few here and there, but mostly to catch water and debris when you come in from outside. I've been debating on replacing the rug in my living room with a seagrass rug, but I'm really leaning towards no rug at all! I love how your new "bare" room looks! And where did you find that basket?!!!

I love the changes! I'm doing the same right now, and incorporating a little bit of pink. It's so refreshing!

Great post. I always thought I "should" add a rug to my hardwood floors because that is what I see in the magazines. I never found the right one and wondered how dirty they would get so my floors are still bare. It sure is easier to clean!

Stacy - Welcome to the world of bare floors! Both my living and dining room floors are bare, and I love them. I find it important to have curtains, upholstery, and soft furnishings to help with echoing. Your living room looks fabulous---so fresh! Love the clock on your mantel. Loi

I have rugs in my kitchen and dining rooms... they are matching. I've been thinking of going bare in there. Since the re-do in the bathroom; I've gone bare in our little bathroom. It gives the illusion of being bigger than it is-- we just keep a bathmat over the edge of the tub for use after showers. I figure our feet are clean when we step out. I get a few uses and wash it once a week.

I like bare naked floors!

I have tried, and lived with, bare wood floors in both living room and dining room. These were beautiful, old wood floors and the rooms had lots of light. Well......I just did not like it! It's TOO bare and barren looking, it's very difficult for dogs to navigate, and beware anyone with even a slight hearing problem! Sounds echo off those floors just terribly.
So, no, I vote for some kind of area rug!

In our former house we had beautiful hardwood floors in the bedrooms, hallway and living room. At one time I briefly had a rug in the LR. When I changed style I never did find one that I liked so the floors remained bare. I LOVED it! Visually more space as well as much easier to keep clean: Swiffer (plus sometimes a small electric broom if there were things the Swiffer couldn't pick up) then a quick vinegar/water mop and I was done!

We redid the hardwood ourselves and I wanted to show it off! If you go to the home page of my website, you can see the room. I miss those pretty floors...{sigh}

What a gorgeous room. I love the look of the wood, but for living in it, I'd have to sneak in a seagrass rug I think! Have a great weekend!
