The Snowball Effect

For some reason I have been struggling with how to decorate my new-to-me buffet – nothing I tried seemed to work. (Maybe the empty space above the buffet - which is supposed to be filled with my yet to arrive mirror – is the real problem.)

Anyway, I came across the picture below which I had saved to my favorites file.

I noticed the two alabaster lamps and immediately knew I had found at least part of my decorating solution. You see I already owned a pair of similar lamps which were currently residing on my bedroom dresser.

So I did a test run and moved the pair to the buffet - loved it!

This left the dresser empty.

I liked having a matching set of lamps on the long dresser and decided to regroup the pair of painted brass lamps I had separated to two different bedside tables.

Now that my dresser was once again complete I was left with two empty bedside tables – one in my daughter’s bedroom and one in the master bedroom.

A trip to Target and my daughter’s empty beside table was filled.

A trip to the basement guest room and my bedside table was looking good again.

Needless to say, what started as a simple desire to accessorize a buffet snowballed into a few hours of lamp rearranging. Fun, but definitely more time consuming than what I had in mind when I started.

I am happy with the result but still need one more lamp for the guest bedroom.

I was curious to know if you have ever done this – moved or added one thing only to spend the day moving things from here to there. I am guessing we all have a similar story to tell. I would love to hear yours!

Stacy, this happens to me basically every time I do a project in my house. But it is also one of my favorite moments--I'm pretty sure I get a high off shopping my house. ;-)

I always try to make a lamp that I already have work before I'll go buy a new one. I even found a couple in the basement last year that came out and got transformed to work for me. Love your buffet and how the lamps look on it, Stacy!

Love your 'new' lamps! Sometimes small changes with what you already own are the best!

Love, love, love your sideboard with the alibaster lamps on it. I love all the other changes you made to that switching out the lamps led to. But really love the lamps on the sideboard. I am in the middle of painting my own sideboard white...I have white lamps for it already...I can't wait to see how they will look on it when done. I love so much of what is in your home.

This happens to me constantly! I love where you've moved everything and the new lamps in the bedrooms look much nicer than the ones you had there originally - and the old ones look much better paired up on the dresser. The lamps on your sideboard are lovely. :)

* It ALL looks FAB! You're doing a beautiful job of creating a SPECIAL, PERSONALIZED HOME! (I always think that's FUN~~~ and it's actually been a BIIIIG PART of my/our life!!!)...

As the wife of an Army officer for 38 years, we MOVED 28 TIMES, and yes, EACH TIME, no matter WHERE in the world, I decorated each home... NOTHING ever stayed in the same place twice, and our homes were never stagnate, that's for sure!!! Small or grand, I enjoyed decorating each n' every one, & entertaining constantly!!!

Now Jim is "retired" (well, from WORK, anyway... now it's just golf, golf, golf and hunting during that season)... And, now that I can actually purchase something to "fit" in a "PARTICULAR PLACE" in this fabulous home, I've found I LIKE having my "options"!!!

ENJOY the fun process, girlfriend!!! "Keeps ya young!", so keep it up!!!...

Warmest wishes,

I do this all the time with accessories. I'm currently trying to accessorize a new sofa table in my family room and subsequently have diminished all the great things I had in the living room and elsewhere. It's a never ending cycle.

Great lamp re-arranging! Love the inspiration pic (esp. the wall colour). Your new to you buffet looks great with your lamps.

Your buffet is go beautiful and I love the lamps like that. I do that all the time too, take something from one room and then replace it with either something else from another room or go out and find something new! I love the new lamps you picked up too!
