No Man Cave Here!

I was at the bookstore today flipping through magazines (a favorite hobby of mine) and came across a picture of my basement sitting area in the Spring/Summer 2010 edition of Better Homes and Gardens 100 Ideas – Real Rooms.

There have been several pictures of this space - which was originally shown back in the July 2009 edition of Better Homes and Gardens – in various BH&G publications (here and here). My basement was chosen this time as an example of “Finishing Points.”

100 Ideas Real Rooms / Photographer - John Bessler
Stylist - Donna Talley, Regional Editor and Producer for Meredith Publications

The caption reads - “Forget the traditional man cave filled with plump leather furniture – a basement can look light, feminine, and tailored. Here, bead-board walls, fresh window trim, and columns hiding unsightly steel posts create a crisp backdrop that’s teeming with architectural character.”

That's so exciting! The room is beautiful! Did you submit your room photos to them or did they come out and do a photo shoot?

I love it. Why ruin a basement by turning it into a man cave?

That's a basement!? Wow, looks great...so light and airy. I believe we all need to get the most of our building footprint and I hope this inspires people to make better use all their spaces. You'd be suprised how much light you can get into a basement with a generous window well and good landscaping.

And...thanks for posting on my blog!

It's hard to believe that room is a basement! It's so bright and pretty. Congratulations on having your room featured in another BHG publication. That must be a thrill!

Your basement is lovely! I think I just won the battle of making our basement beachy/shabby chic instead of outdoorsy. We'll see how he feels when I start accessorizing in all white. Just became a follower too. Excited to read more!

I so agree! It does not look like a typical basement re-do at all . Love the white chair with the flirty skirt, that is one of my all time favorite chairs. It is on my Someday list for my living room. Lovely room, Kathysue
