Anyway, I wanted to finally reveal what I meant to buy when I purchased the blue glass lamp for the master bedroom way back in April. You may recall I had come across an item of interest on Craig’s List and ended up purchasing the lamp and the item. What was the item?
It was a large Eastlake mirror.
Originally I was looking for something big to fill up the wall space at the bottom of the basement stairs (from the above pictures you can tell it did not end up there) and thought a large mirror would be just the thing. I have always loved the look of an oversized mirror leaning against the wall and this seemed like the perfect spot.
After a while, however, I realized it was just not big enough for the space. It looked good but didn’t have the impact I had wanted. I began looking for an alternative location and was so pleased to see it fit perfectly at the entrance to the basement stairwell.
No surprise in that I decided to paint it white – Annie Sloan’s old white to be exact. I still have not figured out if I should distress the edges or leave it as is. I keep waffling between the two. I would love to know what you think!
Thanks again for your patience! I am going to try to get caught up soon.
Wow! Your mirror turned out gorgeous and really makes a statement. Nice work!

PS I think distressing it will enhance the details and make an even bigger impact.
ReplyDeleteThat mirror is gorgeous!! And you found the perfect spot for it. I'm not sure about the distressing either. I am working on a chalk paint mirror right now that I am going to distress, but mine wasn't as pretty as yours to begin with.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I love the mirror, I love the mini chandi even more! I have been searching for a fixture just like that for a long time-with no luck.
ReplyDeleteI love the mirror! Such a great find! I would leave as is... it is perfect!

Your mirror is gorgeous!! I think that's the perfect spot.

Beautiful! I would lightly distress it, but it is gorgeous as is also.
ReplyDeleteI love it "as is" now! I think that sometimes there's a bit too much distressing going on. If I was that mirror and had survived all these years, I would like to know I'd gotten a new look and didn't have to look distressed right away! Some distressing might happen on its own over time. If you got a new pair of shoes, would you want to go scuff them up right away? Just a thought....
ReplyDeleteI think that the mirror is perfect as is, where it is. It's understated right now, which makes it more interesting than distressing it, which to me says, "look"! I have a very similar mirror and haven't had the guts to even hang it. Weighs a ton!
ReplyDeleteThis mirror is beautiful, I am with you, I think it would be beautiful either the way you have it or distressed a bit to highlight some of the carvings.
ReplyDeleteLove it!
That mirror is gorgeous and it looks perfect in that location! =) I love all the details on the frame.
ReplyDeleteYour mirror is gorgeous and looks beautiful where you have it. I think I would distress it just a little.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful day,
Gail
I like it as is. The location that you chose is perfect!
ReplyDeleteI vote for no distressing. It's beautiful! The intracacies of the carving and mouldings really stand out with the white paint. The distressing would be a bit distracting I think. Lovely!
ReplyDeleteomg i love this mirror. it is so so gorgeous in white. i wouldn't distress it. in my family things get distressed the natural way!
