I am always amazed by what people put out along the road for free. Last week I was fortunate to come across the dishes pictured above. A complete set of vintage white dishes with a small silver band! It prompted me to think about what other roadside treasures I have in my house. Here are some of my favorites.
A great dressing table which I painted and stenciled. This was fun to drag home!
An old lamp and a vintage football print. These great carved wood pieces which I believe were originally part of a stair case. There were five in all. I kept two, painted one white and gave the rest away.

I can't believe you found all that stuff on the side of roads . . . the dishes, that is unreal!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it crazy what people discard! I have alot in my home too. I guess there needs to be "discarders" so there can be people like us - "pick-it uppers"
ReplyDeleteWhat? Where do you live that this stuff is just sitting by the side of the road? Wow!
ReplyDeleteGeez! I never find good stuff like that on the side of the road! Not even sort of good stuff. I'm jealous! Great ideas and redos though. Thanks for sharing them.
ReplyDeleteI have never seen "throw aways" like these...well, not since we lived in Germany and every village had their "grolsh garbage" day where everyone would disgard things. My only find was an antique sled. We looked really cute loading it into the corvette that we were driving!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness... I can't believe people are throwing that stuff out!! I need to find an area like you found... to treasure hunt! :)
ReplyDeleteWhy were they throwing away those amazing dishes? Their loss is your gain! I wish I lived somewhere people wanted to get rid of stuff instead of in the frozen arctic where it's too cold to even step outside right now. Ha!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the dishes!!! What a find! And I love the table. Great makeovers out of it all.
ReplyDeleteI think I need to move to your neighborhood!
ReplyDeleteWhy do people put things on the street? Here in Myrtle Beach we have a community building at our recycling center. People put what they want in there. You are allowed to take three items a week.
ReplyDeleteI came to your blog from Today's Creative Blog, and I haven't left yet! You are such a great inspiration! I am a little dissapointed with my home town with the road side finds. I live in AZ and there is never anything on the road side (or in the alley's). I was in Utah visiting a friend, and just while I was there they found a cool piece of furniture, and told me about all the other road side furniture in their house. What the heck? Oh well :). What great finds in your house, I especially love the little side table! Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing what can be found on the side of the road. (I can't believe some of the stuff I have put out there!) Those dishes are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteHi there! Came by way of Today's Creative Blog...what a great spot you have. I can't get over your side of the road finds...Wow!!! That little table in your bathroom and those carved wood pieces are especially amazing! = )
ReplyDeleteSigned on to follow your blog & looking forward to exploring it further.
Blessings,
Tracy
DARN, I want to be in the car with you! GREAT finds!
ReplyDeleteLove your desk you painted!
ReplyDeleteNice post!
love, kelee at the www.katillacshack.com
WOW! I can't believe all your great "junk." ;) I actually look at people's trash when I drive by, but all I ever see is garbage cans around here. :( I have a table very similar to your black one. It was my grandmother's. I think it would look great in black too. Visiting from Rhoda's party. :)
ReplyDeleteWow, I love all the things you picked up curbside. I live in the country and never see anything out! ... Sigh
ReplyDeleteIt does amaze me what people throw out. I love the desk! Looks like it was very well worth dragging it home! It's so pretty now!
ReplyDeleteHmmm, I think all I want to know is...where do you live? ;o)
ReplyDeleteOh wow - I can't believe someone put a whole set of dishes on the curb. Great finds!
ReplyDeletemy mom and I call it shopping at "curbys" :) "wow" on your scores!
ReplyDeleteCan you believe it is illegal to put anything by the road here!? You found some amazing things for free! Love those carved wood pieces!
ReplyDeleteI have the EXACT same table, and I painted it black as well! Except mine was $5 (I talked the guy down from $8) at a yard sale. I want to live where you do and find such great things for free!
ReplyDeleteOMG!!! You FOUND those dishes!! You are completely awesome!! People here DO NOT leave stuff like that on the side of the road. I need to take a road trip!
ReplyDeleteWhere do you live? Cause I'm in the need for some new old dishes! lol Great finds!
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding me? You seriously found all that fabulous stuff out for the trash?!? I need to go dumpster diving in your neck of the woods. I can't believe someone was going throw out those wonderful dishes!
ReplyDeleteWhat great finds! I'd like to come live in your neighborhod.
ReplyDeleteWow they are all great items. Wish I could be so lucky, everytime I check out something on the curb it is total junk. Smiles, Marla
ReplyDeleteWhere in the heck do you live?? LOL I have just recently found a metal cart with wheels, the kind that I've seen people use at flea markets and antique shows, and also a trellis that we are using for our green beans, both things were on the side of the road in people's garbage!
