Slowing Down for Summer and a Sneak Peek

Happy Tuesday!  Hope you all are enjoying the warmer summer weather and it is not too hot to take advantage of enjoying the outdoors.

You may have noticed it has been a while since my last Red Door Home post.  In fact, I think it is the longest amount of time I have ever had between posts since I began this blog over three years ago.   As anyone with kids, a blog and a business knows, the end of the school year can be exceedingly busy.  So while things have been quiet here, it is definitely not the case at my house.  Besides adjusting to a new summer routine, keeping up with lots of activities and sports, I have been putting my sewing machine to good use both for me and my Etsy shop.
On the home front I have been doing a few little updates to my living room. Below is what the space looked like before.

Here is a sneak peak of what it looks like today with more changes to follow soon!

I made the new off-white cushion covers and then had an upholster finish up the bottom part of the two chairs. Having the two chairs in the same fabric made a big difference as now the space feels more unified.

I also made some new pillows for the chairs from old curtain fabric I had in my basement. My mom made the curtains over twenty five years ago and when my parents moved into a new house she no longer had use for them.  For some reason I decided to save two of the panels to use for a pattern.  I never used them as a pattern, but am happy I kept them all these years as they are the perfect complement to this room.

My sewing machine has also been kept busy with lots of embroidered pillows courtesy of my Etsy shop.  The most popular designs have been my new Linen Letter in a Box Pillows and the Lumber Letter Pillows.

I can also tell that the holidays (yikes!) are really not that far away as I have even sold a few stockings!

That is all for now.  I hope you have a great rest of the week.   I will be back in a few days with the July Red Door Home blog of the month!

Tone on Tone – June RDH Blog of the Month

Long before I discovered blogs or there were sites like Pinterest, I kept files filled with my favorite design magazine pictures.  (In fact, I still do today.)  You can imagine my delight when I found that the owner of one of my all-time favorite houses had started a blog!

So today I am thrilled to be featuring the designer behind this house, Loi Thai, and his blog, Tone on Tone, as the RDH June blog of the month.

The pictures above show the house that I and many others fell in love with. (You might recognize many of these photos as they are quite popular in the blog world.)  Shortly after this story was published, Loi and his partner Thomas Troeschel purchased and renovated another home located not too far from their original property.

As you can guess it is just as wonderful and beautifully decorated.

One of the things you will notice is much of the furniture from the first house was also used in the new house.

The gardens surrounding the home are also designed with care and attention to detail - two of the aspects which make Loi’s work so special.

Besides Tone on Tone, the blog, Loi and Thomas are also owners of a shop near Washington, DC by the same name.

Tone on Tone specializes in 18th and 19th century painted Swedish antiques – the very furniture which they use in their own home.

The shop also carries a large collection of creamware, white ironstone, and garden furnishings and ornaments rich with patina.

Loi began his blog a mere three months ago and it already has become a favorite of mine.  (I know you will love it too!)

I have enjoyed seeing his latest design projects and tours of his favorite gardens.

He also has a Pinterest account filled with more even more amazing photos.

I hope you will stop by Tone on Tone and leave a comment letting Loi know you visited.  He is so kind and gracious and will be so appreciative!
